"20A is extremely dangerous. Democracy is finished," she said.
She made these remarks yesterday (26) after an event held to mark the 61st death anniversary of the late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike at the Bandaranaike mausoleum in Horagolla.
When asked about what happens to the SLFP in the future, she said that she does not know. "I do not know. I have been thrown out. This should be asked from those who are in it... Unlike others I don't write down the party as a personal possession," she said.
"I brought it and handed it over to a leader of the people. But he messed it up. So there is nothing I can do. The leader to whom I had given it, tore it to pieces and flung it in the mud and stamped on it," she said.
When asked whether she wouldn't be doing anything to save the party, she said the party does not have members who are free of corruption in order to uplift the party in line with the vision of the late S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike.
"With whom I should be saving it? According to the Bandaranaike Vision, thievery, murder, misuse of public funds are not tolerated. So, I am still seeking individuals in the SLFP higher ranks who do not commit either of these. I still couldn't find any."
