Urgent instructions to principals Featured

Principals will be instructed to decline requests made to include students to schools, by mentioning the names of the President, Prime minister and highly placed government officers.

In a media release, the Presidential Media Division notes that students should be included to school only according to the standard regulations and procedure.

The PMD notes that strict action would be taken against principals who do otherwise.

Risk of 2nd wave not completely eliminated
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has reiterated directives to all heads of schools, to strictly follow and abide by Covid-19 health safety recommendations and guidelines.

Recently, it was reported that parents, teachers and school children have been exercising increasingly less caution health safety practices such as disinfection, washing of hands, wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing within school premises.

The ministry had also highlighted the importance of school authorities remaining alert to any school children who may be ill.

A special discussion was held in this regard at the Education Ministry premises today (16) and Director of the Medical Research Institute in Borella Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said the risk of a second wave of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka has not been entirely eliminated, stressing in the event that a second wave occurs, school children will face the worst of such a situation.

He therefore urged for the public to refrain from being careless ignoring health safety advice.
