Corrupt officials in trouble - Underworld no more holds power Featured

The Ministry of Defense and the Attorney General's Department have taken steps to launch a new police intelligence network to prevent crime and corruption throughout the island.

Accordingly, corrupt officials of state institutions will also be subjected to stricter legal action than the existing rules and regulations.

Defense Secretary Maj. Gen. (retd) Kamal Gunaratne says that in addition to corruption in state institutions, measures will be taken to curb crimes including drug trafficking, illegal arms trafficking and illegal acquisition of state lands.

Drug traffickers and criminal gangs arrested

Arrests of drug traffickers, distributors and users and criminal gang members have also been significantly increased.

It is reported that the widespread wave of organized crime, drug trafficking, extortion and the activities of underworld members have been greatly reduced in the country.
