Why is there a protest against Karu from Colombo? Featured

Several Buddhist monks had urged UNP leader - Ranil Wickremesinghe to resign after handing over the party leadership to Karu Jayasuriya, reports say.

On Aug. 19, around 15 Buddhist monks including Chief Prelate of the Nalandarama - Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thera and Ven. Bopitiye Dhammissara Thera had arrived at the UNP headquarters - Sirikotha and made the above request, reports say.

Mr. Wickremesinghe had explained to the monks that he does not have the power to simply hand over the leadership in that matter. if Jayasuriya is to be appointed as the party leader, it should be proposed to the Working Committee, he added.

Meanwhile, a group of UNP Colombo District candidates have complained to the UNP leader that Karu Jayasuriya had backed the recent election campaign of Samagi Jana Balawegaya candidate - Eranda Weliange, who contested from Colombo District.

A group including Binara Jayawardena, A. Pussewela, Udara Rathnayake and Jinasiri Dadallage have leveled this allegation against Jayasuriya.

It is said that they have also shown a video to Mr. Wickremesinghe, which promoted Mr. Weliange.
