People from 16 districts self-isolated Featured

570 PCR tests conducted on persons linked to the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre have returned negative results.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said tests were conducted yesterday (15) on persons from Rajanganaya, Kundasale, Kandy, Kotagoda, Ja-Ela and those employed at a private hospital in Ragama.

He added that tests conducted on persons from several other areas are also due today.

Meanwhile 09 new Covid-19 cases were detected in Sri Lanka yesterday, increasing the total infections to 2,674.

The Government Information Department said 04 recent arrivals from Qatar and 04 others from the UAE have tested positive for Covid-19.

An individual who was exposed to an inmate of the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre also tested positive.

The total number of cases reported so far stands at 2671.

Self-quarantined in 16 districts

Meanwhile, people from 16 districts of the island have been placed in self isolation as a precautionary measure, the 'Colombo Gazette' reports.

It reports quoting PHI Union President Upul Rohana as saying that several people were self-quarantined after they were believed to have had some form of contact with confirmed coronavirus patients at the Kandakadu treatment and rehabilitation center and the Welikada prison.

Rohana had said that people have been placed under self-quarantine in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Galle, Polonnaruwa, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Kalutara, Jaffna, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Kegalle, Monaragala, Puttalam, Hambantota, Matara and Matale.

He had further said that random PCR Tests will be carried out in these districts to detect patients and contain the virus.
