Guest limit for weddings to be upped?

The government is mulling over increasing the limit of guests at weddings and other functions to 200.

Speaking during a discussion in Biyagama yesterday (23) with over 100 owners of reception halls across the island, minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the relevant proposal has been tabled before the Presidential Task Force appointed to control the spread of COVID-19.

Reception hall owners had claimed the prevailing 100-guest limit imposed for events is insufficient, as they incur large losses due to high costs incurred to organize weddings.

The union representatives also informed the Minister that food suppliers, photographers and videographers and other service providers at weddings are severely inconvenienced.

Noting that he has held discussions in this regard with the Director General of Health Services - Dr. Anil Jasinghe, the minister had added that necessary measures will be taken.
