Flood levels receding - DMC

The Disaster Management Centre says that minor flood levels in the island are receding.

Deputy Director and Media Spokesman of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili said the minor flood levels in Ratnapura, Baddegama and Neluwa have receded adding that the Department of Irrigation said the water levels of rivers has also begun receding.

He added that no evacuations were reported yesterday and today as a result of the inclement weather.

However, Kodippili said showers however are expected to continue over the country today as well and that landslide warnings issued for ten districts continues to remain in place.

The warnings are in effect in the Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kandy, Colombo, Matale, Kurunegala and Nuwara-Eliya Districts.

The DMC Deputy Director has noted that public should immediately evacuate if cracks appear on walls or ground,  if trees are slanting, and if muddy water is seen in springs.
