Inter-provincial buses to resume Featured

Buses will ply among districts from today (20) except in areas that have been declared as high-risk for the Coronavirus.

Passenger Transport Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that a decision had been reached to resume inter-provincial buses from today.

However the Minister said buses will ply only be for the benefit of those returning to work in either public institutions or companies.He said that health authorities had advised that ordinary passengers refrain from using public transport for a few days.

Train travel allowed sans reservations

Meanwhile, it was also decided to allow those from the public and private sector to travel in trains even without a reservation.

The Ministry of Transport Services Management says provisions have been made for state and private sector employees, who are not part of essential services and who do not possess season tickets, to purchase train tickets.

Subject Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said inter-provincial buses have also been allowed to operate from today, except in areas that have been deemed as coronavirus high risk zones.

This regulation however will not be applicable in the Western Province.

The Minister said passengers will not be allowed to travel standing in buses, while passengers will be accommodated according to the number of seats.
