Cancer painkiller seized while on the way to drug addicts Featured

The National Drug Authority has seized from Colombo Pettah 70,000 tablets of a powerful painkiller for cancer patients, but not registered in the country.

Chief food and drug inspector Amitha Perera said the medicine was being transported at the time to be sold to drug addicts.

The market prize of a tablet is Rs. 4.00, but it is being sold to drug addicts at Rs. 80, said the inspector.

The seized drugs, worth Rs. 5.6 million, would be destroyed, the Authority added.
