Commemorative stamp issued for Raja

A commemorative stamp and first day cover with the print of  65-year-old Nadungamuwa Raja, the tallest elephant in Sri Lanka and the only tusker with his own armed guards, was issued today (20 Dec).
Raja is considered an unofficial national treasure as it is one of the few tuskers chosen to carry a casket of Buddha relics at the annual Kandy Perahera.
This is the first time in the history of Sri Lanka that a first day cover has been issued for a tusker.
