In the event the government removes the customs duty on imported wheat flour and issue flour to bakery owners at Rs. 70 per kilo, it would be possible for bakeries to reduce the price of a loaf of bread by around Rs. 10, said the President of the Bakery Owner’s Association N.K. Jayawardena.
He said that currently the wheat flour importers supply a kilo of flour to bakery owners at Rs. 90.
Recently the bakery owners notified that they would reduce the price of bakery products, except bread, by Rs. 5 as a result of the government reducing the VAT.
