99% claim they could endure harassment for family unity Featured

The United Nations Sri Lanka branch states that 99% of Sri Lankan men and women admit that they should tolerate any harassment against them in order to safeguard the unity of their families.

They point out that in order to safeguard the children from  mental trauma, many parents bear up any harassment they have to face.

However, the UN organization states that the male and female equality is a basic right, adding that everyone should oppose any form of gender based harassment or violence.

Meanwhile, according to the 1978 Constitution paragraph 12, every citizen is bound to protect male-female equality status.
