Chandrika writes strong letter to Maithri Featured

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party Senior Advisor and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge said that the SLFP had decided to back Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa violating the party constitution and tradition and without informing her, despite she being a senior member of the party.

She had said this in a letter addressed to President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (04).

She noted in her letter that several party organizers, provincial councilors and Local Government representatives had met her on several occasions and protested against the decision taken to support Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s presidential candidacy and have urged her to show them an alternative path.

According to the secret agreement signed with the SLPP several weeks ago, the death warrant of the SLFP has been signed based on the decision taken by several of the party’s selfish and power hungry leaders, the letter said, adding that the only option to safeguard the party and the rights of its members is through this government.

Kumaratunge stated that once Mahinda Rajapaksa became President he had systematically ruined the SLFP and now he has been instrumental in forming a new party against the SLFP, but no action had been taken against Mahinda Rajapaksa when he left the SLFP and joined the SLPP.
