New team for SLFP-SLPF discussions

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka People's Front(SLPF) have appointed new members to the team engaged in discussions on forming an alliance.

Accordingly, Mahinda Amaraweera, the General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said that he has been appointed to the team representing SLFP.

In addition, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara and UPFA MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna have been appointed as members of the SLFP negotiating team.

It is said the founder of SLPF Basil Rajapaksa has been appointed as the leader of SLPF.

Its other members are MP Dullas Alahapperuma and Chairman of SLPF Prof. G.L Peiris.

Talks between the two sides will be held on Tuesday and will be held at the opposition leader's office.

SLFP and SLPF are to finalize the discussion on forming an alliances before 3 September, Mahinda Amaraweera said.

Earlier, SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, Thilanga Sumathipala and Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa represented the SLFP in the discussion to form an alliance.

Dullas Alahapperuma, Prof. G.L Peiris and Dr. Jagath Wellawatte represented SLPF during earlier discussions.

Meanwhile, the SLFP Central Committee Meeting is due to meet on 27 August.

The General Secretary of UPFA Mahinda Amaraweera stated that special attention will be paid to the upcoming SLFP convention on the 3 September during the Central Committee meeting.
