Another plot of Galle Prison's Superintendent Featured

The Prisons Headquarters has informed the Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms that the Superintendent of Galle Prison, Jagath Chandana Weerasinghe, who was transferred to headquarters with immediate effect, has not reported for duty even after 14 days.

It is said that Weerasinghe has sent a letter signed by more than 200 prison officers to the President requesting to cancel the transfer.

The Superintendent of Galle Prison has been transferred following a series of complaints regarding the Galle Prison.

The Chief Jailor , Ruwan Thihara Jayaratne, who was transferred to the Welikada Prison Training School after he was suspended following the complaints, was assassinated at Ambalangoda on 3 August and the said Superintendent was transferred with immediate effect.

It is reported that Weerasinghe is now trying hard to get the help of politicians to cancel his transfer.

Upon inquiry, the Commissioner of Prisons Bandula Jayasinghe said that the Ministry has been informed about the relevant officer.
