Rajitha slams President during foundation laying ceremony of the Dr. Jayalath’s hospital ward Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena has not been able to uphold the respect accorded to him by the world leaders at the G7 summit, said Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

He said the response shown to Sri Lanka by world leaders prior to 2015 is not seen today. Currently, only countries like Kazakhstan and Baluchistan are inviting the President. Even during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s time only insignificant leaders visited our country including a leader with 32 wives, he said, adding that the current leader has brought back this prevalence.

Minister Senaratne made these comments yesterday during a ceremony organised to construct a modern ward complex at a cost of Rs. 20 million in Ja-Ela in commemoration of Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena’s 6th death anniversary.
The Health Minister further stated, “Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena created guiness records teaching the medical profession to the people. he treated anyone. He was my friend and a profound politician. He never considered race, religion or caste when treating patients. He took great pains to serve the people of the North during the war and to bring about reconciliation.”

“When S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike took over power there was a budget surplus, but despite that, the country was split into pieces due to religious and race issues. As a result the country was unsuccessful. Everyone united when gaining independence for the country and no one can enjoy that freedom independently. I am a better Buddhist than those who are levelling allegations these days. I accept and follow the Buddhist philosophy and not that of various individuals who preach. Since 1956, I am still fighting to protect the country’s freedom. Since recently, our people began taking action to protect our religion. Now we are even behind the Maldives. These so called politicians should accept this. Our country has become a cursed country due to the insighting of racial discord. Currently our per capita income is around 4000 dollars, while Japan has exceeded $ 400,000. We express our views in order to build our country. The country canm only be developped by using our heads and not our mouths. The Buddhist Sinhala politics is used to gain votes. Some claim that if the Bandaranaike-Chelvanayagam pact was implemented we wont have issues today. Our people have realised this 40 years too late and that is why there was a war in this country. The forces created by Bandaranaike eventually backfired on him. if we divide then the country will perish. we must give priority to the country and to develop it and not to party or politics.”

I am minding my own business and watching

“Some say that I am minding my own business. A great number of Catholics perished in the Easter Sunday attacks. The Cardinal acted as a true religious leader and prevented clashes. Other religious leaders should also follow suit. Despite the low income, the current government is developing the country. Gamperaliya and Enterprise Sri Lanka is being implemented. The benefits of these schemes have also been enjoyed by some SLPP regional members. Some question as to what the government has done. No government has ever done what we have done for the people. Under the current governemnt the salaries of government servants was increased by Rs. 10,000 and in addition, I even increased the wages of health workers. We gave life to people who were dying. I admit that there are certain shortcomings in the government. we did a very foolish thing by bringing in the good governance. The good that we have done was not revealed to the people. I am constructing an 08 storied building at the Negombo hospital, but when I went there a group of around 25 SLPP members created a protest and that is what was highlighted by the media. However, I boldly state that we will win the 2019-2020 elections. We have a population who consume rice and no matter how many fools are there, there are also the intelligent people.”

Mp Kavinda Jayawardena, former Minister Mervyn Silva and many other provincial council representatives together with the Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Director General Amal Harsha de Silva, Provincial Health Director Dhammika Jayalath, Dr. Lokuliyanage, Dr. Dhanawardena Guruge and many others participated in this event.
