Special team appointed to investigate doctor’s issue Featured

The gynaecologist attached to the Kurunegala Hospital Seigu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shafi, 42, a resident of Weerasinghe Mawatha in Kurunegala, was arrested by police regarding the suspicious nature in which he had amassed wealth and a special investigation team has been appointed to determine if he had been involved in any illegal activity.

The Health minister has focussed its attention of concluding the investigations as soon as possible and obtaining a report on it.

It is reported that the investigation regarding an incident where an attempt had been made to switch a child had also been completed.

Another investigation apart from police investigations

The Acting Health Services Director General Consultant Lal Panapitiya said that in addition to the investigation carried out by the police with regard to the alleged sterilization of females during caesarean operations, another investigation has also been initiated.

Four other doctors complain against Shafi

Already over 15 complaints have been received against the suspect doctor alleging that he had carried out sterilization during caesarean operations, while four of these complaints are from doctors who had worked with him, a hospital source revealed.

It is also reported that several other women had arrived at the hospital today (27) to lodge complaints against the suspect doctor.
