President Maithripala Sirisena had visited Gnanasara Thera at the Prison Hospital on Vesak poya day and the two had discussed certain matters privately.
However, according to a reliable source, the President had mentioned during a ceremony to release a group of prisoners that if they re-commit wrong he would have to take the blame, was mainly targeting the release of Gnanasara Thera.
The President had discussed these issues with Gnanasara Thera during their meeting.
Sri Lanka Mirror reliably learns that Gnanasara Thera had requested the President to have the special presidential committee appointed to investigate the Easter Sunday attacks to meet with him.
Apparently, the Thera had made this request to inform the investigating team of all the details gathered by the BBS regarding the National Thawheed Jamath and the ISIS.
Protests if Gnanasara Thera is not released
Meanwhile, the National Organizer of the BBS Witharandeniye Nanda Thera had said during a media briefing on May 09th that if Gnanasara Thera is not released by May 18th, a protest campaign would be launched against the President with the patronage of the Mahanayakes.
It is also reported that the Mahanayakes’ and several parties had requested the President to release Gnanasara Thera.
