President agrees to appoint anyone but Fonseka as Law & Order Minister? Featured

The President is said to have notified the UNP unofficially that he is willing to consider any other nomination for the post of Law and Order Minister, other than Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, according to Presidential Secretariat sources.

The UNP had recently notified the President that the Law and Order Ministry with the Police which is under the President currently, should be handed over to an MP from the United National Front.

A discussion in this regard was held between the President and a group of UNP members.

Later, the President had discussed the matter with his advisors. However, after the discussions they have said that if Minister Patali Champika’s name is proposed for the post, he would consider this proposal.

Meanwhile, MP Professor Ashu Marasinghe said that a letter bearing the signatures of Ministers and MPs requesting that Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka be given the Law and Order Ministry would be handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe next Monday (06).

Prof. Marasinghe said that the Maha Sangha, Cardinal and all religious leaders would be notified regarding the letter which currently has around 59 signatures.

Addressing a media briefing held at Temple Trees yesterday (03) under the patronage of State Administration and Disaster Management Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara, Prof. Marasinghe said it is Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who has the most experience in national security and his services are needed by the people at present.
