The Finance Minister is expected to remain in the US until April 18 and is expected to brief the international heads regarding the anti-democratic incidents which took place during the past.
MP S. B. Dissanayake alleged that Minister Samaraweera is working towards securing an important position for himself in the UN Organisation, adding he is deliberately betraying the war heroes and the country in order to achieve his goals.
He made this statement at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (11).
Dissanayake warned that strict action would be taken in connection to Samaraweera’s great betrayal of the country.
S.B. Dissanayake further noted, “Had Mangala Samaraweera, as the Foreign Minister, not agreed to the 30-1 resolution of the UN, there would not have been any allegation against us. Then we would have been released of all these charges. Now, this proposal is due to be re-examined in two years.
He betrayed the country and the war heroes and he is doing all these with the aim of receiving a high position in the UN after 2025.”
Spreading animosity and fear:
Meanwhile, despite criticism by the opposition over Mangala Samaraweera’s actions during the period he was the Foreign Minister, the Minister in a statement noted that there is a group who are against the measures taken towards peace and reconciliation within the country and that they are engaged in spreading fear and hatred with the intention of obtaining power.
In his statement, Samaraweera urged them not to resort to spreading fear and hatred regarding the UN, based on their personal intentions.
