State institutions to get a power saving officer

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken steps to establish a position of power manager for energy conservation in government organizations.

The Prime Minister had informed the secretaries of the ministries on the latest to appoint a Power Manager to look into the electricity conservation.

PM Wickremesinghe has said that as private business owners in Colombo use generators to manage their electricity demand, no need of imposing power cuts in Colombo.

A discussion was held between the Ministerial Committee appointed on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena to resolve the present electricity crisis and the Prime Minister. It has been confirmed that the power cut can be stopped within seven days.

Several proposals have been submitted so far, and Prime Minister has emphasized that the government and private sectors should avert unnecessary power outages by using electricity sparingly. Accordingly, energy saving will be done through energy managers as planned.
