Nagananda’s petition on Wilpattu given dates

A petition filed by Nagananda Kodithuwakku before the Supreme Court challenging the clearing of the Wilattikulam forest area near the Wilpattu Forest Reserve, and constructing illegal structures was ordered to be taken up on June 28 by the Court of Appeal.

The petition was taken up today (22) before Appeal Court Judge Arjuna Obeysekera.

The petitioner, Nagananda Kodithuwakku, informed the court that the 4th respondent in this case Minister Rishad Bathiudeen had been continuously clearing the forest reserve.

As a result, Nagananda Kodithuwakku pleaded with the court to take up the petition urgently for the hearing.

Accordingly, the petition will be taken up by the Appeal Court on the 28th of June.

The petition was filed by environmentalist Malinda Seneviratne and Nagananda Kodithuwakku.

The petitioners say that there is a huge environmental impact due to unauthorized constructions of the forest area in Wilpattu.

Therefore, the petitioners requested the court to issue an order preventing unauthorized constructions and clearing of the forest cover.
