Power cuts again today! Featured

The second generator at the Norochcholai, Lakwijaya Coal Power Station which was out of commission had not been restored and until last night (19) the power from this plant could not be added to the National Grid.

Therefore, the CEB states that further power cuts could be expected.

According to Spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena, measures are underway to restart the second generator.

The second power generator at the Norochcholai Coal Power plant had broken down around 11.00am yesterday.

As a result, 270 Megawatts of power was deprived to the National Grid, which led to power outages in several areas in Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee and several other districts. The power outages hampered the daily lives of the public.

While the last stage of the Lakwijaya Coal Power Station was established in 2014 at a cost of $ 1.45 billion, so far the CEB has failed to construct any other power stations which has led to the current power crisis, according to experts.

Another factor which has caused this situation is the fact that the officers are on one stand while the authorities are on another contradicting each other.

As a result the CEB has failed to provide a satisfactory service to the people.

The two institutions in the country that employs the highest number of engineers is the CEB and Sri Lankan Airlines.
