Signs of Hambantota heating up! – Security units on alert!!

In spite of the court order, the planned protests against the Hambantota port being handed over to a Chinese company, will take place today as planned, said the Joint Opposition.

It is reported that the Joint Opposition protestors are currently nearing Hambantota.

According to the court order, Protests within the port premises, the area near the overhead bridge, area around the administrative areas and on the streets have been banned for 14 days from yesterday.

Meanwhile scores of supporters of the Ministers and MP’s within the government are also heading towards the Hambantota port for the opening of the Ruhunu Development Zone.

The Ruhunu Development zone will commence from the Mirijjawila Investment zone under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang.

When contacted by ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, Joint Opposition MP Dallas Alahapperuma said over 10,000 strong security personnel have already been deployed to Hambantota.
He said tri forces members as well as thousands of Special Forces personnel and thousands of police officers from all Southern region police stations have been deployed to Hambantota for security.

Sagala received orders from PM

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he had issued orders to Minister Sagala Ratnayake to take measures to cancel the court order obtained preventing protests being staged in Hambantota.

The Prime Minister said this yesterday during a special discussion held with the Maha Sangha at the Jayawardanaramaya in Walawa, Ambalantota.

The Prime Minister was escorted to this special meeting by MP Chamal Rajapaksa.
