Gota warned to appear before the court on time Featured

The three-member High Court bench today warned the former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the other defendants to appear before the court on time.

The Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against the former Defense Secretary and others alleging misuse of Rs. 33.9 million of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation Corporation when constructing the Rajapaksa Memorial Museum building in Medamulana during the past regime. The case was heard before Colombo High Court Judge Sampath Abeykoon (Chairman / Judge) , Judge Sampath Wijerathne and Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

Gotabhaya Rajapakse did not appear before the court when the case was taken up and after a while he came to court premises. Attorneys appearing on behalf of Gotabhaya had informed that his client could not come to the courts on time due to the heavy traffic jam in the road. Deputy Solicitors General, Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General requested the court to advise the accused to come to the court on time. The judges who accepted the request and warned the defendants to appear before the court on time.

The Court rejected the request made by the responding party that the three-member High Court has no jurisdiction to hear the case. The case will be taken up again on the 22nd of this month.
