Fmr. DIG reveals details of Millennium City betrayal Featured

Retired Colombo Range DIG H.M.G.B. Kotakadeniya has requested the government to re-investigate the Millennium City incident.

He said, during his tenure as the DIG in charge of the Colombo range, the Defence Ministry had commenced investigations into the Millennium City incident, which found former SP Kulasiri Udugampola guilty.

However, the report of the investigation was handed over to the former Internal Affairs Ministry Secretary and former IGP on January 29, 2002, no action was taken.

In 2003, he said extensive evidence was provided before the special commission appointed to investigate this incident, but that report too was not released, he confirmed.

Although the UNP was accused of the Millennium City incident, in fact it was an operation that was carried out solely for the promotion of the police officer involved in the issue, said the retired DIG.

Therefore, he asked the government to recommence the investigation and pledged his cooperation in the investigation.

Due to this incident, 30 military intelligence officers were killed by the LTTE.
