The CID had revealed that Madush had returned to Sri Lanka to attend the wedding of a former MP’s son several years back.
It is also revealed that one of Makandure Madush’s disciples had contested the Midigama West Pradeshiya Sabha seat at the Local Government elections and two of his disciples had been arrested by the Weligama Police. A prominent politician had called the police OIC and requested that they be released on the intervention of Madush.
Although Mawbima had reported that among the group arrested in Dubai with a diplomatic passport is a former Pradeshiya Sabha member from the Kamburupitiya area, MP Dallas Alahapperuma vehemently denied in parliament yesterday that there was any MP from the Kamburupitiya Pradeshiya Sabha among the 31 persons arrested in Dubai.
Mangala complains to IG!
Meanwhile, addressing an SLPP media briefing, MP Thenuka Vidanagamage said that the person arrested in Dubai, holding a diplomatic passport was a secretary of Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
MP Dilan Perera noted that the said diplomatic passport had been issued through the mediation of a secretary of the Finance Minister.
“These notorious drug racketeers are in the Finance Minister’s lap,” the MP said during a press briefing.
However, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera addressing a media briefing, denied that any of his staff was involved with the Dubai issue.
Meanwhile, despite the Finance Minister refuting allegations that members of his staff were involved with the group arrested in Dubai, several MPs have continued to make statements that his staff was involved. Therefore, he lodged a complaint with the IG yesterday (08) and requested that an investigation be carried out regarding these allegations made by certain politicians.
Further, MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and his son Osanda had also told media that none of their family members had been involved or arrested in Dubai together with Makandure Madush.
