“I sent my resignation letter, and the president accepted it. But I wasn't recalled. I prefer to return to Sri Lanka as soon as I finish my official commitments as a diplomat,” Mr. Liyanage said.
However, it was reported that Mr. Liyanage was expecting to be appointed as a governor during the recent governor reshuffle, but was disappointed at being overlooked.
Earlier, Liyanage was accused of seizing control of Stafford Sri Lanka School in Qatar, leading up to the arrest of several teachers and the librarian of the school, which sparked mass controversy.
