Fmr. defence attache had diplomatic immunity (video) Featured

The British government has informed the Westminster magistrate’s court that former defence attache at the Sri Lankan high commission in London, Brig. Priyanka Fernando, had diplomatic immunity, after which the court revoked a warrant issued for his arrest, according to radiogagana.com.

A case against him for allegedly violating the British Public Order Act was filed for for allegedly making a throat-slitting gesture at a group of pro-LTTE protesters outside the Sri Lankan High Commission on February 04 last year.

After the warrant for his arrest was issued, foreign secretary Ravinatha Aryasinha met British high commissioner James Dauris in Colombo on January 24 and discussed the matter.

When the case was taken up again on February 01, the British Foreign Office made submissions and said Brig. Fernando had diplomatic immunity at the time.

The next hearing has been fixed for March 01 .
