Gota’s ACSA allows US military to enter to Sri Lanka Featured

The United States military has the access to enter the Sri Lankan territory under the Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement (ACSA) former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has signed 12 years ago, ‘Anidda’ reports quoting government sources.

Last Sunday, ‘Divaina’ reported the US Defence Department has begun sending supplies to its warships in the Indian Ocean from the Katunayake airport.

The ACSA allows the US military to enter the Sri Lankan territory and to bring in food, water, clothing, drugs as well as missiles, chemical weapons, torpedos and other heavy weapons.

The US State Department website carries a copy of the agreement, signed by Rajapaksa and the then US ambassador Robert O. Blake on 05 July 2007.

The 10 year agreement expired in 2017, and prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told parliament that an extension was under consideration.

Accordingly, it was extended.
