A National weekend newspaper had reported that since the Provincial Council elections are scheduled to be held within the next few months, the SLFP and the SLPP are in talks to form a coalition. However, when Sri Lanka Mirror made inquiries regarding this matter, the SLPP high ranking official denied such talks and said the report published was completely false.
He said that prior to engaging in discussion with the SLFP, the SLPP leaders should first come to an agreement.
Meanwhile, the Anidda newspaper had reported that a committee under the leadership of MP Dallas Alahapperuma is currently being formulated with regard to forming a new coalition between the parties of the Joint Opposition, but that the SLFP members were not included in it.
Alahapperuma had told the newspaper that the Chairmanship, Secretary and Treasurer of this new alliance would be members of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP). He also noted that 51% of the representatives would be given to the SLPP.
