Proposal to parliament on natl. govt. Featured

Parties that agree to repay the loans obtained by the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime, to grant maximum relief to the people and to establish democracy in the country are invited to join the national government that will be formed soon, says minister Lakshman Kiriella.

The parties that will support a UNF government for good governance will come to be known at the parliamentary vote on forming a national government, he says.

A national government is likely to be formed next week, with the government having sent the related proposal to secretary general of parlimanetary Dhammika Dassanayake yesterday (31).

The proposal says the national government will be formed with the parties that approve of the policies of the UNP-led UNF.

The national government will establish power by gaining a 113-member majority by giving more ministerial positions.

To secure a majority

At present, the government has 107 MPs plus the MP of the SLMC.

That figure will go up to 122 if the 14 TNA MPs extend support.

Or else, the UNP expects to seek five MPs from the UPFA to secure a majority.
