Villagers in Galewela to boycott future elections (video) Featured

People living in several villages in Galewela have unanimously decided to boycott future elections in protest mainly against the dilapidated condition of the access road to their villages.

They charge that no successive government had developed common amenities in their villages.

On January 20, they themselves made some repairs to the road without any involvement of the politicians or officials responsible.

They charge that a board installed in the Meewalapathaha village that it would be ‘reawakened under the 10,000 villages and 1,000 tanks project’ is a non-possibility.

On 05 August 2018, certain politicians of the area came and broke the ground for the renovation of the village’s tank, but nothing materialized thereafter.

A big banner still stands there with the pictures of president Maithripala Sirisena, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former minister Mahinda Amaraweera and state minister Wasantha Aluvihare.
