This was revealed at the Youth Front media briefing held at the SLPP Hedquarters in Battaramulla yesterday (11).
They noted that the two leaders would discuss and take an appropriate decision and that others should make statements and create a crisis within the party.
They said that the SLPP and SLFP would contest the next election under a broad coalition and there could be various views within the party, but so far a decision has not been taken on who the common candidate would be. Neither have they decided on the logo for the broad coalition, but the SLPP is heading the fight against the UNP.
The youth group said that it is the duty of their leaders to field a candidate who is accepted by all the people of the country.
UPFA-MPs Janaka Wakkumbura, Indika Anuruddha, Kanchana Wijesekara and many others participated.
UNP presidential candidate Sajith- Mawbima
Meanwhile, the Sunday Mawbima Newspaper reported that the majority view of the UNP is that they should appoint a UNP leader as presidential candidate for the next presidential election and the majority view is that Sajith Premadasa should be that candidate, which Ranil Wickremesinghe has also accepted.
According to a UNP senior minister, the majority of the UNP members had wanted UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa as the common candidate and the UNP Executive Committee had also shared the same views which Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesimghe had also accepted.
JVP Common candidate
Meanwhile, according to K.D. Lalkantha of the JVP, if a presidential election is called, the JVP would also field a candidate.
He had made this comment in response to a question posed by the Ravaya newspaper on whether the JVP would try to pass the 20th Amendment and on how the party plans to face the upcoming presidential polls.
