Mangala off to IMF to secure lost loan!

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera and delegation will leave for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the USA tomorrow (11) for discussions on regaining the suspended loan facility.

The Sri Lankan delegation is expected to hold discussions with the Managing Director and Chairperson of the IMF Christine Lagarde and her Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusawa.

The delegation accompanying the Finance Minister includes the Finance Ministry Secretary - Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunge and Central Bank Governor - Indrajith Kumaraswamy.

The IMF had suspended the earlier agreed upon loan due to the political crisis that gripped the country in the last quarter of 2018.

The Sri Lankan delegation is expected to discuss the current political situation in the country and the IMF conditions during their visit.
