Janaka Ranawaka accused of hacking into personal computer Featured

Janaka Ranawaka, newly-appointed personal secretary to president Maithripala Sirisena, is under investigation for hacking into a personal computer of incumbent Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte mayor Madhura Vithanage.

The alleged incident occurred in 2013 when Ranawaka was the mayor and Vithanage his deputy, the Colombo high court was told.

Charges against Ranawaka and another suspect were read out before judge Manjula Tilakaratne today (09).

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The complainant was absent at the hearing and his lawyer informed the court that he was not well.

The judge ordered the submission of a medical certificate by Vithanage and put off the hearing until February 28.
