Stolen diamond worth 7 billion with Madush! Featured

A diamond worth over Rs. 7 billion, including several other gem stones which was stolen from a gem merchant from the Maharagama, Arawwala area, had been taken and handed over to underworld kingpin Makandure Madush, who is currently in hiding in Dubai, police investigations revealed.

Investigations revealed that this gem heist had been coordinated by Madush.

The main suspect involved in the robbery had been arrested by the Mirihana Police Special Investigation Unit and upon interrogation, he had revealed that this robbery had been coordinated by Makandure Madush.

The Mirihana Police is conducting a broad investigation to arrest five other suspects believed to be involved in this theft.

A group of persons who had gone to the residence of the gem merchant in the Maharagama Arawwala area, including a Swiss national on November 05, had been negotiating the purchase of a 725 carat diamond and several other stones.

At that moment, a group dressed in police uniform and civil attire had arrested the gem merchant, Swiss national and group, accusing them of being involved in a heroin racket.

The group dressed in police uniform had taken the stock of gems into their possession, together with the foreigner and the group, and had fled.

The group of bandits had abandoned the Swiss national and group in the Maharagama area and made off with the valuable gems.

The Mirihana Police who commenced investigations into this robbery under the directions of the Special Investigation Unit OIC Jayantha Perera, had arrested a suspects.

The police had also found photographs of the diamond and other gems on the mobile phone of the arrested suspect and he had confessed to the police that he had taken the photographs of the diamonds and immediately sent it to Makandure Madush’s phone in Dubai.

Investigations into this gem heist is being carried out by the Mirihana Police Special Investigation Unit, under OIC Jayantha Perera on the directives of Western Province DIG Wasantha Wickramasinghe, SSP Prasad Ranasinghe and SP Saman Pigera.
