The SLFP’s group of 16 is asking the president to abandon the idea of dissolving parliament and calling for a general election, its member S.B. Dissanayake says.

Speaking to the media yesterday (22), he said the president could annul the gazette notification announcing parliament’s dissolution.

According to him, the House majority would be shown at the appropriate moment, and a new speaker will be appointed and the government continued for its full term until October 2020.
