Nalaka, Norman further remanded

Former Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID), DIG Nalaka de Silva and the Indian National Marcelli Norman who were arrested by the CID in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate the President and former Defence Secretary, has been further remanded until December 05 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday (21).

The Magistrate issued this order when the case was taken up yesterday.

The Indian national was arrested by the CID under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, produced in court and remanded, while the former DIG was arrested under the normal law, produced in court and remanded.

Based on his medical reports, the CID informed the court that he was suffering from a mental illness. However, the Indian national said in court that he was not suffering from any mental illness and that he was innocent.

Nalaka Silva’s attorneys had notified court that it was unfair to have arrested him under the PTA and his lawyer Ajith Pathirana appealed for bail.

Representing the Attorney General, Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris Submitted written submissions to the Courts as well.

Having considered the case factors, the Magistrate notified that based on the factors presented to court, it would be considered whether the courts had the power to grant the 2nd accused, the DIG, bail and come to a decision.
