Both attended the swearing in ceremony of the new Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
During this meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inquired from former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge about the current political crisis in the country, according to Maldivian sources.
At this ceremony the Sri Lankan former President was provided seating in the front row while the first elected Maldivian President Mohommed Nashid was seated next to her with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seated next to Nashid.
Representing the Sri Lankan government, Foreign Minister Sarath Amunugama attended the ceremony together with Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha.
Meanwhile, MP Namal Rajapaksa who had visited the Maldives on a private visit had also attended the ceremony.
