The president’s stand is that the motion had not been adopted properly, although the first section in the previous one had been dropped at his request.
He also stressed that he would not appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the prime minister even though he had submitted sworn affidavits signed by more than 113 members.
However, speaker Karu Jayasuriya earlier in the day informed the president in writing that the no-confidence motion was adopted in the manner wanted by him and described by him to party leaders on the previous night.
At that meeting, the president said that he would recognize the result if a no-confidence motion was moved properly and passed.
