Party leaders reject president's invitation for talks Featured

Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne says that president's invitation for a discussion at the presidential secretariat this morning (15) has been declined by party leaders.
Although it was decided last evening to attend the discussion, party leaders have later decided to boycott it, as a mark of protest against the letter sent by the president to the Speaker last night.
The letter, severely criticizing the conduct of the Speaker also accuses the Speaker of disregarding the Constitution, Standing Orders of Parliament and conventions of the House in allowing the passing of a no confidence motion against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Government. 
Insisting that only the Executive was empowered by the Constitution to appoint the prime minister, President Sirisena insisted rejected the no confidence motion passed in Parliament.
