Maithri claims House majority secured Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena says he has already secured the 113 seats required for a parliamentary majority.

Speaking at the people’s rally in support of the new government at parliament roundabout, he said he would not backtrack on the step he has taken.

The president went onto say that he offered the premiership to both Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa, but they declined, and then he found in Mahinda Rajapaksa the most suited person for that position.

He added that it was neither the prime minister nor him who had taken decisions for the country in the past, but a ‘gang of butterflies’ close to Wickremesinghe.
