Windbreaker for coal power plant (pics) Featured

The government has allocated Rs. 600 million towards the construction of a windbreaker to minimize the impact on area residents and the environment from the ashes being emitted by the Norochcholai thermal power plant.

When the winds are strong, ashes from the power plant become a grave problem for the people, causing health issues and damaging agricultural crops.

At present, the power plant has a stock of 1.2 million tons of coal, and also several more tons of the ashes, which are being sprayed with water by the CEB.

Following calls by environmentalists, a windbreaker made of a special metal and fibre has been imported.

The windbreaker will be 15 metres in height and 1,100 metres long.

Also, a planting of trees to serve as natural windbreakers is underway.
