Will always appear on behalf of war heroes – President Featured

Assuring that the new constitution will not harm national security in any way, president Maithripala Sirisena says that as the commander in chief of the armed forces, he will always appear on behalf of the war heroes.

The government is committed for the welfare of the armed forces members, and will provide them with all facilities, he stresses.

The president was speaking at a meeting at the presidential secretariat on December 21 with members of the ‘national war heroes collective’ led by Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara.

Various issues faced by members of the armed forces were brought to the attention of the president on the occasion.

President Sirisena recalled what the government had done for their welfare in the past two years, including granting a pension for disabled members counting less than 12 years of service and allowing retirees of the military to rejoin the state service.

Representatives of various organizations who are members of the ‘national war heroes collective’ thanked the president for the opportunity, which is a first, given them to meet him, and said they have placed a high degree of confidence in him.
