CID probes NYT revelation Featured

The CID has summoned the president of the National Movement of Web Journalists tomorrow (03) to record a statement with regard to a revelation by New York Times.

The Movement on June 29 complained to the FCID calling for an immediate investigation into a NYT article which claims that former president Mahinda Rajapaksa had accepted 7.6 billion US dollars from the Hambantota port account at the last presidential election.

Maria Abi HabibNYT journalist Maria Abi-Habib, who wrote the article, says only the former president could respond to the accusation.

She has told Sirasa News1st that her attempts to contact Rajapaksa during the preparation of the article failed.

However, the joint opposition refutes the charge and challenges to prove it.

The Chinese embassy in Colombo too, has rejected the claim.
