He said this at a special press briefing held at the Western Province Governor’s Office today (13).
The Governor said that he had received a complaint from Provincial Councillor Lakshman Nipunarachchi that there was a plan to purchase expensive chairs for the WPC.
He said instead of importing expensive chairs, he would order the purchase of locally manufactured or assembled chairs and immediately cancel the previous order.
A special committee was appointed to look into this controversial chair proposal and its report was handed over to the Governor on August 29.
Western Province Governor Hemakumara Nanayakkara said the price of a chair without duty is around Rs. 640,000 while by now no one has taken responsibility for suggesting the purchase of these chairs.
