‘SLFP will leave govt. if & when decided by president’ (video) Featured

The SLFP will not allow the creation of a super minister position as long as its remains a member of the coalition government, party spokesman Dilan Perera told a public rally in Kamburupitiya.

It will be up to the president to decide if and when the SLFP would leave the government, he said.

Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on November 25 issued a gazette pursuant to cabinet approval for a development (special provisions) draft bill that gives super powers to his ministry of policy and economic affairs.

Provincial chief ministers have already opposed the development agency to be set up under the act, alleging powers of the PC would be taken over by the PM.

They said PCs should adopt a proposal agreeing to the implementation of the bill.

Central province CM Sarath Ekanayake has told the president that this bill should not be implemented under any circumstances.

Several cabinet ministers have noted to the president that this bill would curtail powers of ministers having the development subject under them, and that whatever decision was taken had to be approved by the CEO of the proposed agency.

To be implemented for the next three years only, the bill makes provisions for creating a national policy on all subjects regarding the development and for economic development, establishment of a development agency, policy making for rural modernization and regional development.
