No basis for nuclear, chemical waste talk - Patali

Allegations by the opposition that the FTA with Singapore will cause Sri Lanka to become a disposal ground for nuclear and chemical waste have no basis, says minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

He says there is no such possibility at all, noting that the port has equipment received from the US that is capable of identifying rays of any form.

Also, the local atomic energy authority has the ability to conduct examinations for all forms of rays, he says.

The minister was speaking to journalists following a function at Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.
