Gota coordinated DKP's investigations!

The first complaint in the incident where former Navy Spokesman D.K.P. Dassanayake was arrested was reportedly filed by the then Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda.

According to investigation file no C267/2009CM, Karannagoda had made a written complaint expressing suspicion that his chief security officer Lieutenant Commander Sampath Munasinghe was maintaining ties with the LTTE for financial benefit.

The complaint said upon inspecting room 08 of the officers’ quarters which was occupied by Sampath, they had found financial transactions beyond his earning capacity, numerous live ammunition and ID cards and bank books of various people, indicating it was necessary to conduct an investigation.

Accordingly, Karannagoda had made a written complaint to the then DIG, crimes, Anura Senanayake on May 28, 2009.

Based on the telephone instructions of the then IG and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the CID commenced investigations headed by DIG, Sisira Mendis on June 10, 2009.

According to police sources, on June 15, 2009 subsequent to a discussion between former Director, DIG Wijaya Amarasinghe (retired), Senior DIG, Keerthi Gajanayake and former Intelligence Chief, Kapila Hendawitharana, Amarasinghe had instructed the CID to investigate this complaint and submit a report.
